E-flite® Apprentice® STS 1.5m is based on the legendary Apprentice S 15e, one of the best platforms designed for learning to fly radio controlled (RC) airplanes. The large size of this model made it an ideal choice for better visibility and the ability to deal with more wind when learning to fly in an RC club flying pitch. Its inherently rugged design and proprietary SAFE® (Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope) technology made this easy. Apprentice STS 1.5m has everything necessary including ESC, battery and charger. The ability to add SAFE Plus® GPS enabled technology and the all-new Landing Assistance Sensor (LAS) to make learning to fly easier and more fun than ever before!
The Ready-To-Fly (RTF) version includes everything needed to fly in one box and is a great choice if you're a new RC pilot. From the Spektrum DXe 2.4GHz transmitter, once you learn to fly the Apprentice STS, you can pair it with other Bind-N-Fly® (BNF) and BNF Basic aircraft. You can use up to 3S 3200mAh Smart LiPo battery, which offers long flight times and useful S120. There's nothing extra to buy or provide with the USB-C Smart charger, which can be used with a variety of USB power sources!

The all-new Spectrum Landing Assistance Sensor (LAS) is easy to install and provides automatic control to help inexperienced pilots land by minimizing or eliminating bounce.
Spectrum Smart Battery and Charger
This RTF version includes a Spektrum 3S 3200mAh Smart LiPo battery that provides long flight times, as well as an S120 USB-C Smart charger that can be used with a variety of USB power sources. Simply connect the battery to the charger; Exclusive Intelligent Technology will automatically identify and initiate charging at the best rate to charge the battery accurately and safely.
Durable Design
The advanced EPO material construction provides a lightweight yet durable body that is tough enough to handle daily flying accidents without losing its shape. The wing is attached to the fuselage with rubber bands so it can bend freely or separate without breaking in the event of a hard landing or collision to minimize damage.
Learn to fly an RC Airplane with SAFE ® Technology!
If this is your first RC airplane, Horizon Hobby's exclusive SAFE (Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope) technology prevents overcontrol and crashes while offering multiple flight modes to provide more control and capability as your skills progress:
Beginner Mode
In this flight mode, the airplane's pitch and bank angles are limited to prevent excessive movements that could cause loss of control and crashes. When the control sticks are released, the aircraft automatically returns to level flight, allowing you to relax and simply enjoy 'steering' the aircraft in the sky. This flight mode also makes takeoff and landing easier.
Intermediate Mode
This flight mode provides more freedom in pitch and bank, but still avoids significant overcontrol and the aircraft does not return to level flight on its own. This allows you to take tighter turns and climb and descend faster as your skills progress. In addition, Beginner Mode automatically activates and returns the aircraft to level flight when it descends approximately 30 feet below ground level and the control sticks are released.
Experienced Mode
In Experienced Mode, there are no tilt or bank angle limits, so you have full control! You can even fly upside down and perform aerobatic maneuvers including loops, rolls, stall turns and more. Panic Recovery can be activated by switching to Startup Mode and releasing the control sticks.
Panic Button
If you lose control of the aircraft in Intermediate or Experienced flight modes, simply switch to Beginner Mode and release the control sticks. SAFE technology automatically returns the aircraft to level flight.
Easy Upgrade to SAFE® Plus GPS-Enabled Technology
It provides advanced autonomous features that make learning to fly even easier with the quick and easy installation of the optional Spektrum GPS Module.
Adding SAFE Plus, you get:
AutoLand
Activated by simply holding down a button, the advanced AutoLand function puts the aircraft on a stabilized approach to land on its own near the GPS launch point. You can even provide some directional guidance to avoid obstacles or adjust the approach and at the same time let the system do the rest to make a safe landing. As your skills progress and you gain more confidence, you can take over most of the control inputs and eventually learn to descend without any help from the automated system.
Standby Mode
This very useful SAFE Plus exclusive feature allows you to "pause" the aircraft by placing the aircraft in a GPS-guided standby pattern. When activated with a quick press of a button, the aircraft will automatically return to a position above the GPS launch point and circle until the command is canceled with a quick press of the button. It's a great way to safely pass the controls to a friend or regain visual contact if you miss the model.
Virtual Fence
It's easy to accidentally let an RC plane fly too far, but worry no more with Virtual Fence. It creates an invisible border that the aircraft cannot cross. When the aircraft reaches this limit, it will automatically turn and fly back towards the GPS launch point. Then it will "swing" the wings to let you know when you have control again.
